Greg Terrell
A Reef Sherpa's Journey
Hello and Welcome to my website...
Let me introduce myself, I am Greg Terrell and this site chronicles my adventure as a Reef Sherpa. I am glad you're here; read my stories, look at my pictures, see my whereabouts, and send me a note if you like.
Until recently I was a IT manager working in corporate America and living in Michigan; a great life so far with many fantastic memories. I came to East Lansing in 1977 to attend MSU and I will always be a Spartan. I followed the basketball team to a national championship and I attended MSU football games every Saturday (20+ seasons without missing a single home game). I visited my family in Traverse City and friends in the throughout the state. From what you may see elsewhere on this site you may not realize that I will definitely miss Michigan as a home, including all of its four seasons.
In September of 2007 my sister and brother-in-law gave me a week in their timeshare; I had no idea how this would change my life. I made plans for my first tropical vacation destination on the wonderful island of Aruba. This was totally new to me, I have traveled all over the USA and Canada partaking in the adventure, culture, sights, and tastes of North America. Mainly an exploration tourist, I had no idea how to spend an entire week on the beach. Hmmm... how about SCUBA? I like to swim, snorkeling is cool, and I can only take so many umbrella drinks. Ok... let's try SCUBA!
Being focused on my goal, I completed my PADI Open Water during my week on Aruba. By the time I had to leave Aruba I was already hooked, I was only able to book one additional dive before departing. I got home, ran to the dive shop to buy my own gear, and jumped online to book my first "dive" adventure. In December, I found myself at Stuart Coves in the Bahamas logging 19 dives, improving my buoyancy, and getting my PADI Advanced OW certification. Soon enough I was diving in Epcot's Living Seas, diving in Lake Michigan, diving Aruba (again) and obtaining further PADI certifications.
Then it came to me... I wanted a new journey and diving was its central theme! I made the decision to leave corporate America, continue my scuba training to become a professional, and initiated plans to migrate to the Caribbean. This site journals these unfolding adventures: the challenges of going pro as a diver, my bittersweet thoughts as I relocate my home, and the pictures to go with these stories.
The journey, not the destination, is what makes us happy.
About this site... The two main sections of the site are my journals (a.k.a. Stories) and photo galleries. Throughout the site you will find links labeled "Where is this?", these links will launch Google Earth and take you to a geomark. You must have Google Earth installed on your PC to view the geomarks. If you do not have the Google Earth application already installed on your computer you will find a link to the Google Earth installation application on the Stories page sidebar.
